Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces expanding in power within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of heroes who will separate from the primary party to begin their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group includes Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might seem mismatched, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the group access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and Wicander defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the clan.

This means them few options but to head to the northern region in quest for the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to form the Seekers and Planners tables.

Audiences can look forward to learning which adventurers will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
