Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then found multiple other smeared cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests show the substance was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.
City officials stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A high-ranking official stated the attack left him without words and had to be solved quickly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
